Principal Investigator

Postdoctoral Scholar Nora is a postdoctoral scholar in Bioengineering. She seeks to understand fundamental mechanisms behind gene expression and its determination of cell phenotype by using a combination of molecular biology and computational tools. Outside of the lab, Nora enjoys spending time with her two dogs, antiquing, and refinishing furniture.

Postdoctoral Scholar

Research Assistant Sean is a full-time research assistant. He hopes his work will make it easier for others to contribute to the whole-cell model. When he’s not in the lab, he enjoys practicing calisthenics and watching YouTube videos, sometimes both at the same time.

Lab Manager Adrian was a first generation low-income coterm student in Chemical Engineering, and now serves as Lab Manager. Adrian is passionate about research and development in the biosciences. Outside of the lab you can find Adrian cooking, playing games (both video and board games!), or swimming. Adrian is always looking for new adventures and experiences with friends.

Research Professional Hazel is interested in uncovering and solving puzzles about bacteria using molecular biology and imaging approaches. Her favorite activities beyond the lab are spending time with her son, cooking, and running!

PhD Student Mia is a first-year PhD student in the Chemical Engineering Department. She is excited to apply computational biology techniques to areas that will help further our understanding of how underlying cellular processes connect. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball, cooking, and exploring new music.

PhD Candidate Riley is a third-year PhD candidate in Computational and Mathematical Engineering. She is passionate about the application of tools in mathematics and computer science to research questions in biology. Outside of research, she enjoys playing classical guitar and doing escape rooms.

PhD Candidate Cyrus is a third-year PhD candidate in Bioengineering. He enjoys making elegant tools and models that are useful for understanding living systems, and developing new technologies based on it. He supervises the Stanford iGEM team. With his spare time, he enjoys the process of learning things - currently West Coast Swing dancing, the Chinese language and improv theater.

PhD Student

PhD Candidate Gwanggyu is a final-year PhD candidate in Bioengineering. He is interested in building models of complex systems and uncovering patterns and insights from such models, while depleting the lab’s stock of Sour Patch Kids. Outside of lab, he enjoys hiking, running, playing golf, and traveling to new places.

PhD Candidate Mica is a second-year PhD candidate in Bioengineering. Mica is interested in advancing the application of computational models to pressing issues such as sustainability. Outside of the lab, Mica enjoys painting, making music, and cooking.

Undergraduate Student Tim is an undergraduate student majoring in Biomedical Computation. He is interested in using computational modeling and tools to investigate interesting biological phenomena, particularly in terms of cells/proteins and its applications to medicine. Outside of the lab, Tim enjoys playing volleyball, collecting board games, and exploring photography.

Undergraduate Student Albert is an undergraduate student majoring in Biology. He is interested in how different components of complex systems work together to allow life, and how mathematical/computational tools may reveal insights into that, as well as science generally! Albert also enjoys playing the piano and the trumpet.
